The first weekend of February 2011 kicked off the first major Jiu Jitsu tournament of the year with the European Championship which was held in Lisbon ,Portugal, from Feb 4-6.

The European Championship is the most prestigious and largest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament held in Europe by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation, and it has been held there since January of 2004.

This tournament really sets the stage for all the world Jiu Jitsu teams as they move forward towards the goal of competing at the Pan Am’s and World Championships in California later this year.

Two stand out Atlanta athletes made the long journey to Lisbon in search of the Gold.
Georgiafighters.com would like to give a huge congratulations to Atlanta’s Alliance Jiu Jitsu competitors Pedro Torres and Jordan Schultz!

Pedro Torres earned the Gold Medal in the Purple Belt Featherweight Division. Pedro not only won all 5 of his matches to get to the top of the podium, but ended each of his 5 matches by submission.

Secondly we would like to congratulate Jordon Schultz on placing second in the highly contested Lightweight brown belt division. Jordon won the world championships purple belt division in 2010 and recieved his brown belt soon after. This was his first major tournament competing at the brown belt level and managed to secure the silver medal in Lisbon.
